Many of you entered our Green Outdoors Contest and plenty of you talked about it on your blogs and shared it on Twitter and Facebook. Thank you so much for your support! We asked our winners what they were planning on doing with their prize. They seemed pretty thrilled, so I thought I would share some of their reactions with you.
Pat from Ontario got some new equipment and his son got himself a snowboard and accessories to hit the slopes in British Columbia. Janet from BC is planning on using the prize to get her and her husband back on track for a healthy lifestyle. Of course, kids, grand kids and her mom will all benefit as well. Ghislaine from Quebec will be getting a pair of bikes with her husband so they can travel the routes of the province when they go camping. Also her son was able to upgrade his downhill ski equipment and he’ll be able to join his friends when they go skiing.
I think Kathy Edmunds, a small business owner from BC, sums up very well the spirit of the contest:
“First let me say how thrilled we were to receive this prize. It was a real ray of sunshine at this time of year on the coast.
[…] I have three sons: 18, 21, and 23, two in school and one working with us. They were very active in team sports, especially soccer, until a few years ago, but still bike downhill, snowboard, hike and play recreational soccer. Two of them have since used some of the prize to buy sticks, gloves and helmets to play shinny at the college. At some point our plan is to buy a kayak as we enjoy canoeing. I took advantage of the prize to purchase a new pair of hiking boots as my old ones were falling apart. I hike with friends and dogs twice a week.
It is also my hope to use some of the prize to send soccer equipment to Uganda as friends have a close affiliation with a very underprivileged community there and are currently in the country building a school/community centre. The details are still to be worked out so I’m thankful that the certificates will not expire for quite some time.
[…] Our thanks again to Cascades for sponsoring this contest. The prize will certainly grant opportunities we would not otherwise have had.”
