Most people love to see the twinkle of bright, colourful holiday lights when the weather turns cold. However no one loves the environmental or financial impacts that these lights can have. The solution to both of these problems is LED lights, that is Light Emitting Diode lights. They come in all sorts of colours, designs and patterns, displaying the same festive twinkle as your traditional holidays lights. They use 90% less electricity than regular holiday lights, saving you money on your holiday utility bills, and reducing your impact on the environment.
Another benefit to LEDs is that they don’t give off the heat of traditional incandescent lights. While you should still be turning off decorative lights when you go to bed or aren’t at home, using LEDs reduces the overall risk of combining hot lights with a dry tree, flammable decorations or little fingers.
Many municipalities and Hydro companies across Canada have been participating in a “Holiday Light Exchange. In most cases, you bring in two strings of energy-guzzling incandescent holiday lights and they’ll give you a string of FREE LEDs! Please contact your local hydro company or municipality for details.
