It’s so simple, but sometimes we just need a reminder that “being green” also means getting outside and connecting with nature.
Those of us who make an effort to participate in outdoor activities have a greater environmental appreciation and are generally happier and more productive. How so? A little fresh air and Vitamin D can help you deal with stress and anxiety and make you appreciate a peaceful way of life. Or, depending on your energy level, promote vitality and sporty activities!

Here are some outdoor activities that help you appreciate your natural world:
- Take lessons in a new outdoor activity like dragon boat racing, kayaking or gardening (I play beach volleyball weekly on Lake Ontario);
- Enjoy a picnic! Go to a nearby park, beach or your backyard;
- Go for regular walks, hikes, bike rides or paddle boat rides in natural settings;
- Join a local outdoor club or community organization and go on their outings;
- Go for a guided tour of a local ecosystem, conservation area, or natural habitat;
- Invite the birds to roost at your new mini-home – hang a birdfeeder and learn to identify local species;
- Plan a vacation around visiting a national park or a music festival.
In the end it doesn’t really matter what you do, but why not try something a little out of the ordinary routine. Now get off the computer and enjoy the great outdoors!

Moving plants,purchased when they were almost dead at a huge discount, trees, shrubs into holding beds until the house renovations are complete. I check on them daily and water them with water collected from rain barrels. It is so satisfing to see each of them thriving with the care they are receiving. Next year they will be moved again and again the proacess will begin again.
