ReThink Toilet Paper

Prabhjit Banga

Even if you’ve given up paper towels and paper napkins you may be unwilling to part with toilet paper and tissues (at least when you have a bad cold). I don’t blame you! I am not in a big rush for reusable toilet paper myself.

The toilet paper industry has one of the greatest industrial pressures on forests. A lot of the toilet paper we use is not made of recycled fibres but from felled trees — often from North America’s virgin forests, which are as rare as they are rich in wildlife.

So, how do you make the switch to eco-friendly toilet paper products?

When shopping for recycled toilet paper, look out for statements such as “unbleached”, “processed chlorine-free” or “totally chlorine free.” Greenpeace has released its latest Recycled Tissue and Toilet Paper Guide, a shopping guide to help you find the best eco-friendly tissue and toilet paper brands. This guide recommends Canadian brands like Cascades.

So what are you waiting for? ReThink the toilet paper you use and take the switch to recycled toilet paper today!
