Achigan eco-design

Achigan eco-design has started with two creators that wanted to reuse objects and fibers to turn them into fashion items. It’s with this environment and humanitarian mind that this women started their business. They are recycling, but more importantly, every item is fabricated in their region, so they are giving jobs in their surroundings.

This project was founded by two percussionists whose hearts beat for the environment. The drummers tour schools in order to show students that artistic projects can be achieved using recycled objects. After the show, students are prompted to invent percussion instruments with recovered objects and have a huge jam session with the entire school.

Neufchâtel professional training centre

The Centre de formation professionnelle de Neufchâtel and its carpentry school help the City of Quebec recover trees that have been cut down. They have an agreement with the City where they collect elms for making furniture. Students thus have the opportunity to work with a less often used species of trees that can be very interesting. What’s more, their recovery efforts help make useful objects that are very sought-after.

Toy library in Sainte-Foy

In this business dedicated to responsible consumers, parents can borrow toys for a limited time and come back to trade them in for other toys afterwards. That way parents don’t have to buy toys that after a while just sit on shelves, unused. In addition, the toy library promotes interaction between children and their parents. When parents come by to pick up toys, they are asked to at least sit down and play a board game with their children.

Sorting things out at Cascatelle

A simple idea, beautifully executed  that is what Cascatelle school is offering. The school cafeteria includes a sorting area where students can do their part for the environment. They sort whatever’s left of their meal, that way only the minimum amount of waste ends up in the garbage can.

Batteries at Laval’s L’Odyssée-des-Jeunes

L’Odyssée-des-Jeunes is a school in Laval that set up a recycling project for used batteries. The entire school has gotten involved  even students’ parents make sure that batteries used at home are recycled at their children’s school.

Art and the environment come together at the University of Ottawa

Art students at the University of Ottawa decided to make a sculpture using bottles so as to raise people’s awareness of recyclable rubbish. This monument will also serve as a vessel for messages of hope that passers-by will be asked to write and insert into the bottles.

A different kind of Christmas at Envol school

Students at Envol school are learning the true values of Christmas: sharing and solidarity. To that end, they are making Christmas decorations made from recycled objects. The project’s aim is to promote reuse rather than consumerism. By the same token, students favour handmade gifts rather than store-bought ones with a limited lifespan.
